Monday, August 22nd is the Feast of the Queenship of the Blessed Virgin Mary.+++Pope Pius XII (the same pope who proclaimed the dogma of the Assumption of Mary in 1950) established this feast in 1954.+++The feast is a logical follow-up to the Assumption, and is now celebrated on the octave day of that feast.+++In his 1954 encyclical, Ad Caeli Reginam (Queen of Heaven), Pius XII points out that Mary deserves the title for 4 reasons:+++1. because she is Mother of God,+++2. because she is closely associated as the New Eve with Jesus’ redemptive work,+++3. because of her preeminent perfection, and+++4. because of her intercessory power.
