todd_fb_squareIn this session we wrapped up chapter 7 where St. Paul discussed the issue of marriage and state of life, and we moved into Chapter 8 on the offering of meat to idols. There was an issue with the Corinthian Christians, having so many pagan temples: most of the meat offered at the marketplace were the “leftovers” from pagan sacrifices.

The Christians were torn: should they eat the meat offered to idols or not? This section is difficult and we wrestled with it for some time. St. Paul seemed to say the idols are not real gods, so there is no need for alarm… yet at the Council of Jerusalem, the Apostles declared that Gentiles were to cease from eating food offered in idolatry.

Hmmm… Perhaps in Episode 11 there will be some clarity!
