Introductory session of our Genesis Bible Study
This introductory session of our Genesis Bible Study explores the opening verses of Sacred Scripture, Genesis 1:1–5. We begin with an overview of the book’s title, authorship, and literary genre, examining Genesis as true revelation conveyed through rich and poetic language. The session addresses the meaning of biblical “myth,” not as fiction, but as a profound vehicle for divine truth. Participants will reflect on God’s name Elohim, creation ex nihilo (out of nothing), and the revelation of the Holy Trinity present at the very beginning of creation. We will also consider the significance of the world being “formless and void,” the Ruah (Spirit) of God hovering over the waters, the power of God’s performative word, and the deep mystery of time as it unfolds in the opening moments of salvation history.
