Covenant, Consequences, and Moral Questions After the Flood (Genesis 9)

Episode 12 of our Genesis Bible Study focuses on Genesis Chapter 9 and life after the Flood. This session reflects on the signs of renewal as symbolized by the raven and the dove, and the establishment of a new creation marked by God’s covenant with Noah. We examine the introduction of the death penalty within the context of the sanctity of human life and the seriousness of violence. The episode also addresses the reality of a “new Fall” through Ham’s sin and the resulting curse of Canaan, highlighting how sin continues to affect human history even after divine rescue. Finally, we confront the difficult moral question of why God would allow innocent people to perish, engaging both the justice and mercy of God within the broader narrative of salvation history.
