Our mission in CGS is simple yet profound: to help children fall in love with God. This begins by offering them a space where they can pray, reflect, wonder, and work—at their own pace—using hands-on materials based on Scripture and the liturgy.
The catechist’s role is not to lecture, but to prepare the environment and gently guide the child into a deeper awareness of God’s presence. In this sacred space, children explore parables, learn the parts of the Mass, discover the geography of the Holy Land, and more—all in ways that speak directly to their hearts and imaginations.
CGS Sessions at St. John the Evangelist:
-
Level 1 (Ages 3–6): Focuses on knowing the Good Shepherd and the joy of being loved by Him.
-
Level 2 (Ages 6–9): Helps children explore how to remain on the vine and respond to God’s love through moral decision-making and service.
Children attending St. John School (Preschool–1st Grade) participate in CGS during their school day. For parishioners and others outside the school, we offer weekday morning and evening sessions. Space is limited and early registration is encouraged.
We are deeply grateful to the many volunteers, donors, and trained catechists who have given their time and talents to help prepare our atria. Their work allows us to offer a beautiful, reverent space where children can encounter God in a real and personal way.
“It takes much time, talents, and treasure to prepare the atria space and for catechists to be trained. But with careful planting of seeds, much good fruit will come to bear.”
We invite you to join us on this journey—whether as a family enrolling your child, a volunteer helping prepare materials, or simply someone who wants to support the spiritual lives of our youngest parishioners. Together, we help our children learn what it means to follow the Good Shepherd and remain close to Him always.
Register today and help your child grow in faith, wonder, and love.
