Sacred Tradition, Veiling, Worship, and the Dignity of Women
In Episode 9 of our study of 1 Corinthians, we begin Chapter 11 by exploring one of the most important topics in Christian theology: Sacred Tradition.
St. Paul praises the Corinthians for holding fast to the traditions he handed on to them, giving us an opportunity to examine the Catholic understanding of Sacred Tradition and how it differs from merely human traditions. What did the early Christians receive from the Apostles, and why does the Church continue to preserve those teachings today?
We then move into Paul’s discussion of men and women in public worship, including the often-debated topic of veiling. By exploring the cultural context of the first century and the theological principles behind Paul’s words, we can better understand what these passages meant for the early Church and what they may mean for Christians today.
Along the way, we’ll take a deeper look at the dignity, vocation, and God-given value of women as revealed throughout Scripture and Christian tradition.
This is a rich and thought-provoking study that tackles some of the most challenging and misunderstood passages in the New Testament.
