Jesus stands before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin as Peter denies Him, Judas despairs, and the Passion continues toward the Cross.
In Episode 53 of our study of the Gospel of Matthew, we examine Matthew 26:57-27:10 as Jesus is brought before Caiaphas and the Sanhedrin for an unjust trial. We explore the religious leaders’ efforts to condemn Christ and the profound significance of His testimony before the high priest. Outside the courtyard, Peter fulfills Jesus’ prophecy by denying Him three times before the rooster crows. We also discuss the traditional site of Peter’s denial, the Church of St. Peter in Gallicantu, and its connection to these events. The episode concludes with the tragic account of Judas Iscariot’s remorse and death, highlighting the difference between despair and true repentance as the Passion Narrative moves toward Calvary.
