Jesus pronounces judgment on hypocrisy, weeps over Jerusalem, and begins His prophetic Olivet Discourse about the future.
In Episode 45 of our study of the Gospel of Matthew, we examine Matthew 23:1-24:3 as Jesus delivers His powerful “woes” against the scribes and Pharisees, exposing religious hypocrisy and calling for authentic holiness. He then laments over Jerusalem with deep sorrow, expressing His desire to gather God’s people as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings. As the disciples leave the Temple, Jesus foretells its destruction, leading to the beginning of the profound and often challenging Olivet Discourse. This episode introduces one of the most important prophetic teachings in the Gospels, addressing the destruction of Jerusalem, the coming of the Son of Man, and the call to remain faithful and watchful.
