Witness to Hope Diocesan Share
Diocesan Share of Our Campaign
One portion of our parish goal will be designated as the diocesan share, our participation in the work of the universal Church beyond St. John the Evangelist. That sum of approximately $920,000 will be combined with the diocesan shares of all our parishes for the support of God’s people throughout the 10 counties of our diocese. The diocese, in turn, will distribute these collective funds in three primary ways: 1) formation of our youth and families, 2) evangelization and outreach through the spiritual and corporal works of mercy, and 3) care for our priests and seminarians. Here are some of the ways our Jackson area benefits from these diocesan funds:
- More local families will receive need-based financial aid to make a St. John School and Lumen Christi education possible for their children.
- $200,000 will be allocated for capital improvements at our local Catholic Charities of Jackson, Lenawee, and Hillsdale Counties on 3425 Francis Street here in Jackson. Among other services, Catholic Charities provides counseling for marriages and families, as well as for the addiction epidemic (drugs, alcohol, pornography, etc.) that has hit many communities, including our own.
- More new evangelization grants will be available to help grow our parish. Some of those grants already have helped our parish begin outreaches like Alpha and the Called & Gifted Workshop, which have energized the faith life of our parishioners.
- $3 million will be added to the Seminarian Education Endowment, which contributes to the education of future priests who have yet to serve us, like our former seminarian interns, Mark Martin and Tyler Arens. Such funds enabled Fr. Chas to serve on staff for the seminarians at Sacred Heart Major Seminary and made possible Fr. Brian’s seminary education.
