Jesus loves the little children and calls the children to himself! We need a few more adult-type-people to answer the call for teaching Jesus’ kids. We are looking for an adult lead catechist/teacher for 3rd grade Religious Education this year; we have two terrific and capable high school students as classroom aids. Our long-time teacher chose to “retire” after many years of volunteering with St. John. Also our Sunday morning Children’s Liturgy of the Word is in need of a few more adults who could be on a rotating schedule to work with younger kids during the Sunday morning masses.
The Religious Ed catechist has a curriculum to work with, based on the Sunday readings. We have a gathered time in the beginning of class where we have some fun with memorization, silly songs, and reviewing the basics of the Faith. Classes are 10am until 11:30 most Sundays during the school year. Contact Todd Gale for more information. If you have some interested, but would rather work with YOUNGER students, our 1st grade teacher may be willing to swap grades with someone!
Children’s Liturgy takes place during the 10am and noon Mass on Sundays. This important ministry helps kids from Pre-K to 4th, allowing children to delve deeper into the Word of God in a way they can understand and also helps the parents receive the life giving words of Christ with less distractions! Plans and materials will be provided. If we can get a small team of folks together, there could be a rotation schedule. If interested please contact Todd or our amazing chief volunteer Cindy Smith: cindymsmith414@gmail.com
Everyone who volunteers to work with children must have a simple background check and take a safety training required nationally.
