Secular Franciscan’s at St. John the Evangelist
Now known as the Secular Franciscan Order (SFO), St Francis of Assisi founded it more than eight hundred years ago. He founded the Friars Minor for men, then the Poor Clares for women, and finally for lay men and women who were called to a religious life but not to a vowed one, a lay organization which he called the Third Order of the Brothers and Sisters of Penance. Thus they too could live the Way of Francis. The SFO now includes more than three quarter of a million living members, who follow the rule of the Gospel in a lifetime commitment.
The local Fraternity of the Third Order of St Francis meets at the Parish Center on the fourth Sunday of the month at 1:00 p.m. Its members come from all parishes in the area.
